Slack setup guide

Post new leads, customer texts, missed calls, and review ratings to a Slack channel. Takes under a minute.

Before you start

  • ✓A Contractor Systems login for the business.
  • ✓A Slack workspace where you can add apps, and the channel you want alerts in (for example #leads).

Contractor Systems only asks Slack for permission to post to the one channel you pick. It can't read messages or see your other channels.

Connect Slack

  1. 1Click Add to Slack below, or in the Contractor Systems app open Settings (or Setup, step 7) and click Add to Slack next to Slack.
  2. 2Sign in to Contractor Systems if asked. If you run more than one business, pick the right one at the top of the app first.
  3. 3Slack opens its own page. Choose your workspace, then the channel alerts should post to, and click Allow.
  4. 4You're sent back to the app, Slack shows Connected, and a hello message appears in the channel.

Choose what posts

In Settings, under Slack, each kind of alert has its own switch. All four start on.

New leads and messagesWebsite forms, ads, and other lead sources, with the customer's message.
Texts from customersTexts to your connected RingCentral or Dialpad line.
Missed and AI receptionist callsWho called, plus the AI's summary of the call when your AI receptionist answered.
Review ratingsWhen a customer rates you from a review request, with any feedback they wrote.

Every post links to the conversation, call, or customer in Contractor Systems. Click Send test any time to check the channel.

Change channel

In Settings, click Change channel and pick a new channel on Slack's page. Your alert switches stay the way you set them. Each business you run in Contractor Systems can post to its own channel.

Troubleshooting

Slack shows “Needs reconnecting”+

Slack stopped accepting our posts, usually because the channel was archived or someone removed the app in Slack. Click Reconnect and pick a channel again. Your alert switches are kept.

“That Slack link expired. Click Add to Slack again.”+

The Slack page sat open for more than ten minutes before you clicked Allow. Click Add to Slack again and finish within a few minutes.

“That Slack sign-in was for a different business.”+

You manage more than one business in the app and the account switched mid-install. Pick the right business at the top of the app, then try again.

Slack says the app needs approval+

Your workspace only allows approved apps. Slack sends your admin a request; once they approve Contractor Systems, click Add to Slack again.

I can't find my private channel on Slack's page+

You can only pick private channels you're a member of. Join the channel in Slack, then click Add to Slack again.

Nothing posted for a new lead+

Check that the matching switch is on in Settings, and click Send test. If the test posts, the alert type is switched off; if it doesn't, the card will show what Slack said.

Disconnect

In Settings, click Disconnect next to Slack. We remove the app from your Slack workspace and stop posting. You can also remove it from Slack (workspace settings → Apps); we notice and disconnect on our side. Push notifications in the Contractor Systems app keep working either way.
